The few weeks of the school year have come and gone and it was a mini emotional roller coaster. On the first day that I returned, I learned the following information:

1) The AP who hired me, transferred to another school and left our school without an AP of Curriculum

2) The newly appointed Principal retired the next day, unbeknownst to the AP who left the day before. If she had stayed one more day, she would have been the principal.

3) The search for a new Principal left our school extremely disorganized

4) The AP who got arrested returned to school and pretended like nothing happened

5) We got a new principal

The new Principal at our school is a lady who wanted to hire me three years ago when I was looking to transfer. She is very cool and I'm very happy she is my new boss. They moved up one of our A.Ps who knows nothing about Curriculum to become the new Curriculum AP. She is the best friend of our new Principal. They will interview for a new AP position in the near future, but I do not think that I will be the choice.

The problem is that in my county, in order to get a job as an AP, you must first go through what is called an Assessment Center. In order to gain entry to the Assessment Center, you must have your Certification in hand. The state will probably take a while to issue my certificate. In the interim, I cannot gain entry to the Assessment Center, and thus, cannot be hired. The next assessment will likely be in October or November.

However, in the next county over, in order to get a job as an AP, all you need to gain entry to their Assessment Center is a record on the State's computer indicating that you are waiting for your certificate to be issued. The next assessment will likely be this month. At this point, it looks like this might be my best bet. It may require a little longer drive, but I think I can get a job as an AP much sooner.

In the meantime, the first week of school went very well. The kids were pretty nice, with the exception of a few kids who are probably going to be a problem all year. I'm just kind of sitting back and taking the attitude that I want the kids to enjoy this school year.

The food drive is off to a great start. My students alone have gathered over 400 cans. If we are able, as a school to get between 1000 and 2000 cans of food for the food bank, I'll be very happy.
